QR CODES FOR PDF DOCUMENTS

Update the document. Keep the printed QR.

Use one QR to share a public PDF, then change its destination when a new edition is ready. Useful for instructions, price lists, brochures, welcome guides, and product inserts.

Create your free dynamic QR

From idea to a working QR.

STEP 01

Upload your PDF to a file host or your own website.

STEP 02

Make the file publicly viewable and copy its HTTPS link.

STEP 03

Create your dynamic QR, download it, and test access without signing in.

Active links keep working beyond scan allowances.

Publish the file before creating the QR

PrintOnceQR does not upload or store destination PDFs. Host the document somewhere you control, then use its public viewing or download link as the destination. A link copied from an editor or a private workspace may only work for you. Check it in an incognito window and on a phone using mobile data before you print.

Replace a version without changing the artwork

When your document changes, either replace the file at its existing public address or upload a new file and update the QR destination in PrintOnceQR. The second approach is useful when your file host generates a new URL for each upload. Keep the old version accessible until you have confirmed the new destination works.

Design documents for small screens

A PDF built for an A4 page can be hard to read on a phone. Use readable type, short sections, and manageable file sizes. Large downloads can frustrate visitors on slow connections. If the content changes frequently or needs to adapt to different screens, a web page may be a better destination than a PDF.

Use public links only for public information

Anyone with a printed QR can scan and share it. Do not treat the QR as access control for private documents. If a document must require authentication, enforce that at your file host, and tell intended viewers they will need to sign in. QR scan analytics measure link visits, not proof that a PDF was read.

Your questions, answered.

Can I upload the PDF directly to PrintOnceQR?

No. PrintOnceQR manages your permanent QR link. Host the PDF on your website or a trusted file service and paste its public URL.

Will it open or download the PDF?

That depends on your file host, its response headers, and the visitor’s browser. Test your chosen public link on the devices your audience uses.
